What Are Lip Fillers?

Lip fillers are lip injections designed to add lower or upper lip volume. You can also opt for a lip filler procedure on one specific area so that it looks fuller. Typically, these lip fillers are also called hyaluronic acid fillers, which is the main ingredient in the injection. When injected just below the skin, this acid makes the area look like it has much more volume.

There are many reasons you may opt for these soft tissue fillers, as they can add volume to the lip, clearly define the border between your skin and your lips, and even smoothen out the surface of your lips. So, it should come as no surprise that this is one of the most popular lip augmentation procedures available today.

That said, keep in mind that lip fillers, like many other cosmetic procedure options, are designed to be temporary. When you get lip fillers the results can be great, but they won’t last forever.

This is why it’s crucial to find the best lip filler for your needs and your body so that you can ultimately achieve longer-lasting results.

How Long Do Lip Fillers Last?

Length can vary based on your age and amount of filler, but generally, lip fillers last from six to twelve months before needing a touch-up.

Answering the question “how long do lip fillers last” isn’t that simple. This is because, even if the best lip filler can produce natural-looking results and fullness for any qualified candidate, the results can last longer in some people than others.

Some patients report that the results from this minimally invasive procedure last them around 12 months. However, other patients say the lip fillers gave them fuller lips and better lip symmetry for up to 18 months.

Why does this happen?

There are a few reasons lip fillers last a different amount of time for certain people. The primary reason is your metabolism. When you get lip augmentation with dermal fillers, the ingredients that give you lip volume and improve lip symmetry are eventually metabolized by your body.

So, if you have a faster metabolism, the lip enhancement won’t last you as long. This is why lip filler consultations are important to talk to your injector about how long the effects will last so that you go in with realistic expectations.

Typically, younger people have a faster metabolism. As you get older, the aging process slows your metabolism, which means that the lip filler procedure offers longer-lasting results for older individuals.

What Are the Benefits of Lip Filler Injections?

There are many benefits to getting lip filler injections outside of just adding volume to your lips. Lip fillers are one of the most popular dermal filler treatments right now, but there are benefits to getting these noninvasive treatments.

Erase Fine Lines and Wrinkles

One of the biggest advantages of dermal fillers is that they erase fine lines and wrinkles. Even if you get lip filler injections, you can smoothen out the texture on your lips and eliminate any fine lines that may be causing you trouble.

Lip injections and other dermal fillers work well, especially when applied to the right injection sites. This is why it’s important to get an experienced injector that understands exactly where to administer the injections so that you get the best results.

Plump Up Your Lips

If you’re looking to increase the size of your lip then lip fillers are ideal for adding extra volume. When you get a lip enhancement with fillers, you can enlarge the size of your lips with a minimally invasive procedure that requires little to no downtime.

Natural-Looking Lip Fullness

A common goal when getting dermal fillers is to enhance facial features while maintaining a natural appearance. This can be achieved with lip fillers but this is highly dependent on finding a qualified lip filler injector to administer the treatment. At JC Aesthetics, we specialize in assessing our patient’s needs and creating treatment plans that will help you achieve natural-looking results.

Restore Lip Size and Correct Lip Shape

As you age, the size of your lip may change by increasing or decreasing in size. An experienced injector will be able to restore your original lip size if needed. It is also common for lips to be asymmetrical in shape, this can also be corrected with lip fillers.

Barely Any Downtime

With lip fillers, you don’t have to worry about downtime. While there were many benefits to getting fillers, one of the biggest ones is its minimal recovery time. So, you can see the results much quicker than with a typical surgical procedure.

How many syringes will I need?

Most commonly, just 1 syringe is used for augmenting the lips, regardless of the type of filler you use. Occasionally, we will build up to 2 or even 3 syringes in the lips for a patient, but this is usually an older patient who has lost some of the definition and structure in the lips, as well as volume.

If you look at lip filler before and after photos, you’ll notice that some patients benefit more from the procedure as the natural plumpness they’ve lost with age has been restored through lip filler injections.

Types of Lip Fillers

There are many different lip fillers on the market, so it’s crucial to get the filler that is best for your needs. However, we’re only looking at two types of lip fillers today:

JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA XC is for injection into the lips for lip augmentation and for correction of perioral lines (lines around the mouth), often called lipstick lines, vertical lip lines, or lip wrinkles, in adults over the age of 21. JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA XC lasts up to 1 year, with optimal treatment.

JUVÉDERM Ultra XC temporarily adds more fullness and plumps thin lips—whether your lips have thinned over time or you simply want fuller lips—in adults over the age of 21. JUVÉDERM ULTRA XC lasts up to one year, with optimal treatment.

Jenn Cobbs, PA has exclusive access to these products since she is currently on faculty for Allergan Aesthetics (the makers of Botox and Juvéderm).

What Lip Filler Lasts the Longest?

Again, some people with slower metabolisms will have longer-lasting lip fillers. However, according to most reports, the lip filler procedure that produces the longest-lasting results is Juvederm. So, ask your injector if you’re a viable candidate for this procedure if you want long-lasting fullness in your lips.

What Is the Process of Getting Lip Fillers?

The first step in lip enhancement is to book a consultation. This is where we will learn about your current physical health and determine if you’re a good candidate for lip filler injections. From there, we will determine the best lip filler treatment plan for you.

Then we will proceed to the actual treatment, where we will use a very thin needle to inject the filler into the injection sites. We may use a local anesthetic called lidocaine on the lips, so you feel less pain.

After the procedure, you can expect swelling. However, the swelling will fade within 72 hours, and your lips will fully heal within two weeks. And once the injection site has healed, you can enjoy the lip fullness from the fillers!

Understanding how long lip fillers last before getting the procedure is important. That way, you have realistic expectations and a rough idea of how long you’ll have full and plump lips.
